Black History Month

    The theme I chose was activism. I chose to do my research on Emmett Till, Langston Hughes, Ray Charles, and Petey Greene. Each one on these people had their part in the cicil rights movement, even though they were just small contributions. Emmett Till brought to light the civil rights movement with his murder. Langston Hughes did his part in travelling the world and speaking about his views in his poetry. Ray Charles intergrated music and was even kicked out of Georgia for some time for refusing to perform at a segragated concert. Petey Greene often spoke out against racism and poverty on his talk-shows and helped to quell the riots in D.C. after the assassination of Dr.Martin Luther King, Jr. these men may not have been a huge part of the civil rights movement, but they were all a part of it.
